Should Beowulf be considered a classic?

No, I beleive that the plot is too paper thin even though the characters

and setting are unique the story is too predictable in my opinion. Book

age should have nothing to do with the quality of the book. I don't think

myths should be preeched other than greek mythology, but on that note no

greek mythology is considered a classic; so why should beowulf? I think

Beowulf should be recognized as a good movie since it is loaded with

action, but it does not provide the challenge of reading a classical book

such as books written by shakespeare where every story is completely

diverse and of different eras. Learning how to interpret old english is

useful in many ways and Beowulf doesn't use old english even though it is

based in the 5th century it is much easier to interpret than shakespeare's

work.

  1. After reading the poem Beowulf, I would like to say Beowulf is not a classic. Even thought Beowulf is a very old story that has been around for a long time, it is more of a timeless story. By timeless story I mean being eternal, ageless, immortal, or not affected by time, and still readable by the modern person. I say that Beowulf is not a classic because its fiction, meaning it never happened and there is no possibility of it ever happening. In the poem Beowulf, Beowulf himself fights many monsters and does many fictional things. Even though Beowulf uses the old English language I still won't consider it a classic but more of a timeless poem.
The reason why I won't consider Beowulf a classic is because its a fictional story, to me its more of a myth and a timeless story, that doesn't age through out history, and is readable to all people. - Mitch.
