Yes, I do think that the book Beowulf should be in Oprah's Winfrey book
club. Even though alot of high school students don't really like classic
literature because they find it boring, I'm sure that high school students
would really enjoy reading the book Beowulf. The book is very interesting
and it sure grabs the readers attention. The book does not really teach
the reader much about classic time because it is fiction, but the text is
very classical which the reader can actually learn what classic literature
is like. Even though the book it's pretty difficult to understand at first
because of the classic text, but the reader gets a hang of it, and it's
capeble of understanding the book and learning more classic literature. I
do recommend the book Beowulf to Oprah's book club. This book will be able
to teach high school students what really classic literature is, also they
will be getting a taste of what it is like to read classic books and how
alot of books can be interesting even when they're classic.

I totally Agree with you Luis, but on a different note I do agree that Beowulf should be on Oprah's book list, I enjoyed the book to be honest, it had a simple plot that wasn't too hard to follow, and I think that today's reader should read the original Beowulf story like our group did. The book itself taught me a about the era Beowulf lived in, even though its a fictional story, and how the story was told. So I think readers of today will enjoy this story.
ReplyDeleteGuys: Ask yourselves this - why would a major Hollywood studio and actors and a director with shelves full of Oscars make a film of Beowulf in 2007 if they didn't think there was some classic timeless appeal to it? Why did you all go see "300" or "Troy"? Sure they are films and you do not like to read, but how can you say the story itself is not timeless when people continually go back and re-tell it? For Beowulf that's been 1,500 years worth of re-telling and "Troy" and "300" more like THREE THOUSAND years of people absolutely loving the story. Bravery. Courage. Foolishness. Fear. Pride. All there, no?
